Real People, Unreal Tech: Steve Aksamit

Real People, Unreal Tech: Steve Aksamit
Senior full stack engineer:
Meet Steve Aksamit

Steve’s career in software development spans more than 20 years. He has worked across industries, built tools to solve complex problems and kept pace with rapidly changing technologies. What began as an interest in building software became a long-term career shaped by persistence and a willingness to keep learning.

That perspective has carried into his role at LCP Media since 2020. As a senior full stack engineer, Steve brings both technical depth and a practical approach to his work. He focuses on solutions that clients can use right away while supporting the team with steady leadership.

Outside of work, Steve’s life centers on his family. With two kids at home, much of his time is spent around their activities and daily routines. His dog, Leia (named after Princess Leia), is part of the mix too. Steve also enjoys concerts and music, especially acoustic, alternative and classic rock. That balance of curiosity and problem-solving shapes how he approaches challenges both inside and outside the office.

What originally drew you to LCP Media, and what made you decide this was the right place for you?
The opportunity to be part of a company that was building something new. It felt like the kind of environment where I could make an impact, and that has proven true over the years.

How long have you been working in tech and development, and what’s been the most exciting part of your journey so far?
I have been in software development for more than 20 years. The most exciting part has been watching the industry evolve and adapting to new tools and approaches. There is always something new to learn, which keeps the work fresh.

You studied computer science at Indiana University. How did your education there influence your career?
Indiana gave me a strong technical foundation and exposure to a range of approaches in computer science. It prepared me for the reality that technology keeps changing, and the ability to learn quickly is just as important as what you know today.

If you had to sum up your approach to leadership or teamwork in just three words, what would they be?
Collaborative. Focused. Supportive.

What’s the most rewarding part of your role as a senior full stack engineer at LCP Media?
Seeing the direct impact of what we build. Knowing that the software we create is being used and adds value makes the effort worthwhile.

Looking back, what’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out in software development?
I was given advice when I was starting out: ABC — always be coding. It doesn’t matter so much what the project is, as long as you’re writing code and tackling problems. The more you code, the more you grow your knowledge and skill set. It’s not the only piece of advice, but for starting out, it’s pretty good advice. Always be coding.

What excites you most about the future of LCP Media and the direction the company is heading?
Being part of the Yardi family has created new opportunities and challenges. I look forward to seeing how we continue to evolve our products to serve a wider range of clients.

Innovation & impact

What’s a project or accomplishment at LCP Media that you’re especially proud of?
Helping support the transition of our products during the Yardi acquisition stands out. It was a significant change for the team and for our clients, and making that process smooth was important.

Is there a project or initiative you’re currently working on that really excites you?
Right now, I’m focused on making our TourBuilder Insights dashboard more powerful and user-friendly. The goal is to give clients clearer data and a smoother experience so they can get the most value out of the platform. I’ve also been involved on the backend for a new feature that will enhance TourBuilder Go, which I’m excited to see come to life soon.

If you could swap roles with anyone at LCP Media for a day, whose job would you want to try and why?
I would be interested in trying a product or client-facing role to see how decisions are made from that side. It would give me a different perspective on how technology and business connect.

Life outside of work

When you’re not coding, how do you like to relax and recharge?
Spending time with my family. Much of my free time is spent around my kids and their activities, which keeps life full and fun. Outside of family time, I enjoy getting outdoors and going to concerts. Music has always been a constant for me, especially rock and acoustic genres.

If you could have dinner with any three people, past or present, who would you choose and what would you want to talk about?
Without hesitation — the members of the Dave Matthews Band. HUGE fan.

What’s something fun or unexpected that most people don’t know about you?
I play platform tennis. Our league season is coming up, and it’s something I really look forward to. Back in high school I played saxophone in the orchestra, and while I haven’t picked it up in years, I’ve thought about taking guitar or bass lessons. It’s never too late to learn, and music is something I always want to stay connected to.

What was your very first job, and what lessons from it still stick with you today?
My first job was at a golf course in high school, and we had to be there at 5 a.m. to cut the grass before golfers came out. My boss gave me advice that has stayed with me ever since. He told me that no matter what you’re doing, someone else could always come along and do it better, so you have to keep working hard, keep learning and keep building new skills. That is something I’ve carried into my career.

If you could take a dream vacation anywhere right now, where would you go and why?
Costa Rica. It’s a place I’ve always wanted to experience, with the mix of nature, adventure and time to recharge.

Do you have any favorite shows or movies?
Mad Men a top favorite show — it’s a classic and a real work of art. Recently, I’ve been watching The Gilded Age, which has been great. And Long Strange Trip, the Martin Scorsese documentary on the Grateful Dead, is another favorite. I especially love documentaries about music.

Tom Chomiak, chief technology officer, shares:

Steve brings a steady presence to our team that makes a real difference. He’s dependable, thoughtful and he approaches challenges with a calm confidence that gives others reassurance. His intelligence and consistency shine through in the way he works and in the support he gives his teammates. Having Steve on the team creates a sense of trust and stability that allows all of us to do our best work.

Anthony Lin, vice president of product, adds:

Steve is the kind of full stack engineer every team hopes for — organized, detail-oriented and always ready to lend a hand. He led the development of TourBuilder Connect, a tool that allows users to guide others through virtual tours, and he continues to guide our newer engineers with the same patience and expertise. Whether it’s tackling complex code or helping a teammate, Steve is the steady force that makes big ideas possible.

Parchi Parihar, lead 3D computer vision & machine learning engineer, explains:

I’ve always appreciated Steve’s enthusiasm and his ability to consider projectas a whole. He consistently helps beyond his own tasks, and his full-stack expertise combined with his helpful nature make him an asset to the entire team.
